David Kherdian

David Kherdian is a poet, novelist and memorist. He was born in the USA,Racine, Wisconsin, in 1931. His work has been published in 13 languages around the world. He has published thirteen volumes in Root River Cycle, consisting of poetry, memoirs, novels and novellas. His biography of his mother, The Road From Home, the sole survivor of her family of the Armenian Genocide, has been published around the world. He has edited nine literary anthologies, and over the course of 40 years he has edited three journals: Ararat, Forkroads, and Stopinder: A Gurdjieff Journal for Our Time, while founding three small presses: The Giligia Press, Two Rivers Press, and The Press at Butternut Creek. His honors, prizes and awards include The Boston Globe / Horn Book Award, Newbery Honor Book Award, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, Jane Adams Peace Award, Banta Award. On the occasion of publishing this poem in Inknagir for the first time he wrote: “It is a pleasure for me after all these years to hear from an Armenian publication such as yours from the homeland that has taken an interest in the work of Armenian writers in the Diaspora, and wishes to explore issues of identity, loss and recovery”.
